BANGALORE, INDIA: Reliance Communications has today announced the launch of '3G at 2G price'. Now consumers can get 1GB of 3G data at Rs 123.
The new tariff is applicable to both prepaid and postpaid consumers.
The CDMA giant is also eying to bring at least 40 per cent of the smartphone user base to its network. India has a close to 65 million smartphone customers which is expected to reach 150 million by 2015.
RCom president and CEO (Wireless) Reliance Communications Gurdeep Singh said that they have intent to enable wire-free India. "India is far behind in the adoption of 3G. 75 per cent of consumers believe that price is the only barrier," he said.
Singh said that they want India to go 3G and Reliance have embarked on path breaking 3.0 revolution. "Data democratization at affordable pricing is the key," he added. The aggressive pricing, he feels, will trigger 3G adoption and industry would follow the suit.
"By breaking the 3G entry barrier, we plan to bring about behavioral change and the benefits of high speed data access to everyone will impact not just lives, but lifestyles as well," Singh added.
The company said that the new customers moving onto Relaince network with MNP will also be able to avail the new 3G data offer. 2GB and 4GB of 3G data is also available for Rs 246 and Rs 492 respectively.
