MUMBAI, INDIA: Reliance Communication (RCom), India's telecommunications service provider, today announced partnership with Polycom Inc., the global provider of tele-presence, video and voice solutions in Mumbai.
The partnership will bring world’s first wireless, high-resolution video conferencing service, which will be marketed by Reliance Webstore Limited, Reliance ADA Group’s retail arm.
It’s a Polycom QDX 6000 video conferencing system with dedicated VPN connectivity via the Reliance Netconnect Broadband + wireless broadband data card and router that can be easily deployed with easy plug and play mode.
According to Reliance Webstore Limited’s CEO and managing director Sarup Chowdhary, the first of its kind wireless video conferencing service will be available across 40 cities in India and in next one month will be extended to 60 cities. However the company has a target of 100 cities by the end of this year.
“The solution was developed jointly by Reliance and Polycom in past six months and during the last two months, the beta testing was conducted. This new service will strengthen Reliance Communications’ visual conferencing portfolio,” Chowdhary said.
Further he explained that at large video conferencing systems are more of fixed and stand alone systems but with launch of the wireless video conferencing now, it will completely change the scenario.
Chowdhary hoped that video conferencing market would be doubled with the launch of wireless videoconferencing service and expected around Rs.400 crore revenues in next five years.
While Hansjoerg Wagner, Polycom’s vice president and managing director for Asia Pacific said, “Although mobile broad band exists in many markets, India is the first country in the world to deliver a wireless video conferencing service via our partnership with Reliance Communications.”
For this new service, the company is targeting small and medium enterprises (SMEs), education, hospitals, event management, media and entertainment and hospitality and other sectors.
Apart from the new wireless service, Reliance Webstore Limited already offers wired video conferencing services to over 1500 corporate clients via its network of over 200 video conference suites at Reliance World stores located across India.
The complete solution costs under Rs.2 lakh and will be powered by Reliance’s video conferencing service including the nation wide network of video conferencing suites at Reliance World.
However a connectivity plan of Rs.1500 per month which comes with 10 GB of usage every month and the additional usage will be billed at 50 paise per MB rate.
