This release expands Rational’s "Extended Development Experience"

by introducing Rational XDE Modeler, a new member of the Rational XDE Family,

and ScriptAssure, an industry-first capability in Rational Suite TestStudio that

produces resilient test scripts for Java and Web business applications.

Rational Suite provides systems engineers, analysts, developers, testers, and

project leaders with more than 15 pre-tested, integrated products in eight

Rational Suite editions. With this release, Rational expands its unique

"Extended Development Experience" to architects and designers of

business applications and software products, and provides more power for Java

and .NET developers and testers.

Rational’s "Extended Development Experience" provides a

frictionless design and development environment by tightly integrating Rational’s

products into IBM WebSphere Studio Application Developer and Microsoft Visual

Studio .NET, empowering developers to work directly within their integrated

development environments (IDEs). With this release, Rational integrates Rational

XDE Modeler into these IDEs while integrating Rational Suite TestStudio into the

Eclipse-based WebSphere Studio IDE and Rational PurifyPlus into the Microsoft

Visual Studio .NET IDE. Combined, these integrations expand the "Extended

Development Experience," broadening its reach to testers, designers and

architects.

For developers of embedded software products, Rational Suite v2002 Release 2

includes a new version of Rational Rose RealTime. Enhancements to Rational

ProjectConsole offer new capabilities to project leaders of teams focused on

developing business applications, embedded software, and software products and

systems.

"Rational Suite v2002 Release 2 provides tools and best practices that

liberate development teams from the chaos that plagues software projects,

enabling them to increase productivity and meet their goals." Rational

Software, chief marketing officer, Eric Schurr.
