The bike ride startup Rapido has resumed its operation in 39 cities across the country. Currently, they are open only in green and red zones.

The Bangalore-based start-up said in a statement that over 3 lakh Rapido drivers (captains) are dependent on these services for their daily income. With this new change, they will be able to earn again.

How will the Rapido captains take care of the customers?

The company has made it mandatory for Captains to install the Aarogya Setu app before they restart working. The company has also mandated wearing a mask at all times as well as carrying sanitizers. Also, hair-nets will be mandatory with helmets. The captains have to maintain personal hygiene and sanitise their bikes at regular intervals.

Meanwhile, after every ride, customers can give feedback about wearing a mask or captains not using sanitizer. Also, the company said it will keep updating customers on the status of various cities and safety instructions via in-app notifications.

Red Zone Operations

To help out Captains in Red Zones, Rapido collaborated with Spencer’s, Big Bazaar, BigBasket for doorstep deliveries. In certain states like Karnataka and Delhi, it is helping the government to deliver essential commodities. It has also partnered with Eat. Fit, Myntra, Zomato and Swiggy. The company is also offering door-to-door parcel deliveries for customers so that they don’t have to step out during the lockdown.

In these times, this new venture has supported the livelihood and income of the captains dependent on Rapido as their income source. The company claims that 70% of its riders are on-ground to provide services.

Further, it is also in talks with  Grofers, Dunzo, FreshoHome to expand its delivery services where it will not charge captains for delivering essential items.

Person to Person parcel delivery via Rapido Box

Rapido has extended the logistics offering to launch on-demand, person-to-person delivery service. People can deliver parcels to friends and family within the city. This service is called Rapido Box.

The company said in a statement: "We hope that with Rapido Box, people will be able to comfortably help their loved ones in need, without leaving the safety of their homes.”
