Ramadorai steps down as TCS CEO today

BANGALORE, INDIA: S. Ramadorai, who was at the helm of affair at India software giant Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), making every challenge an opportunity, is stepping down today as the chief executive officer of the organization.

His successor, N Chandrasekaran, who is currently the chief operating officer (COO) will take charge on Tuesday.

Ramadorai is retiring today on reaching the retirement age of 65 years as per the company's policy.

Though he is retiring as the CEO, Ramadorai would continue his association with the company as the non-executive vice-chairman, and the appointment would come to effect on October 6, Tuesday.

Ramadorai, who was re-appointed the CEO of TCS on August 9, 2004, was given an extension till October 5, after his tenure was completed on August 8, 2009.

In a recent interaction with the media he had said that it has been a satisfying journey, building and organizing Tata Consultancy Services to what it is today.

“When I was appointed the CEO of TCS in 1996, we were an around 100 million dollar company, and today we are among the leading services company, serving top ten clients in the world and having crossed the six billion dollar mark," he said.

A graduate in Physics from Delhi University, Ramadorai got his Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electronics and Telecommunications from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Later he took hi Masters degree in Computer Science from the University of California.
