Ramadorai to step down as TCS CEO

N. ChandrasekaranBANGALORE, INDIA: India’s biggest software exporter Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) said on Tuesday that its current chief operating officer (COO), N. Chandrasekaran, will take over as the new chief executive officer and managing director of the firm from October 6.

S. Ramadorai, whose term as the CEO and MD comes to an end on August 8, has been given an extension up to October 5, 2009. Ramadorai was appointed as the CEO and MD of TCS for a period of five years from August 9, 2004 to August 8, 2009.

Chandrasekaran, 45, was appointed COO of TCS 21 months ago and was also promoted as Executive Director. A key member of the TCS corporate strategy group, he was responsible for the formulation and execution of the company's global strategy, says the TCS website.

He has been at helm of several key strategic transitions in TCS including expanding its business portfolio to include BPO, Infrastructure and Consulting services. He is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, and an active member of Computer Society of India and the British Computer Society.

In April 2006, he was named by Consulting Magazine in the USA as one of the top 25 most influential consultants in the world.

Chandrasekaran completed his Masters Degree in Computer Applications from the Regional Engineering College -Trichy, in Tamil Nadu, in 1986 after obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Applied Science from the Coimbatore Institute of Technology.
