Raja's arrest was imminent: Rajeev Chandrasekhar

MUMBAI, INDIA: In response to former telecommunications minister A.Raja's arrest by CBI, former telecom entrepreneur and parliament member Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that it exposed the efforts of the new Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal and Planning Commission Dy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia to try and 'persuade' the country and its people that there was no scam.

“The arrest of the former minister and bureaucrats of DoT by the CBI was inevitable - in the face of the overwhelming evidence of the 2G scam that has emerged over the last few months. The arrest and the CBI FIR also exposes the efforts of the new Telecom minister Kapil Sibal and Planning commission Dy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia to try and 'persuade' the country and its people that there was no scam,” he said in a statement.

Earlier, Rajeev Chandrasekhar had written to the Prime Minister, PAC Chairman and Political Leaders in Parliament saying that the claims made by Kapil Sibal and Montek Singh Ahluwalia about ‘zero' loss due to 2G Spectrum Scam was baseless.

He said, “These arrests — a consequence of Supreme Courts monitoring of the CBI is the first step — and will hopefully expose all the illegalities, criminal conspiracies, perpetrators of the scam and the beneficiaries. It will hopefully signal that law breakers will be punished regardless of who they are.”

Earlier today, CBI had arrested A. Raja in connection with the 2G spectrum scam. Two of his close aides, former Telecom Secretary Siddharth Behuria and RK Chandolia were also arrested.
