Yahoo said the list of the popular newsmakers of India in its 2009 Year-ender Special was gathered through news accessed on Yahoo! India network by users, said a press release.

Some of the key stories for Rahul to be the top newsmaker for 2009 included pulling up the sagging fortunes of the Congress party in Uttar Pradesh, tirelessly working towards making the Congress a youth-oriented party and repudiate Manmohan Singh's offer to take a seat in Cabinet amongst others, said Yahoo.

Following Rahul Gandhi is Katrina Kaif who was in constant news about her movies and her private life. Reality show star Rakhi Sawant managed a 5th spot after Lalit Modi, cricket's billion-dollar man who changed the face of the game and A.R. Rahman, better known as the 'Mozart of Madras' who has sold over 100 million copies of his film scores and soundtracks, worldwide.

Besides top newsmakers, Yahoo! India will also feature interesting findings on the top events, farewells and sporting moments of 2009 in its Year In Review, identified by the Yahoo! India editorial team, added the release.
