of CIOL Bureau spoke with Pradeep Malhotra, vice president and managing director for Continuous Computing India Pvt. Ltd about their technology, products, competition and India operations.

Excerpts from the same.

CCPU's Products

Continuous Computing is a global provider of Network Service-Ready Platform that enable telecom equipment manufacturers to rapidly deploy converged communications. We customize our solutions based on clients' needs and requirements, and our aim is to provide the appropriate solution for the customers' application. The company's key products include Trillium protocol software, AdvancedTCA and CompactPCI systems, upSuite platform management, and Trillium+plus Network Service-Ready Platforms. Trillium protocol stack software is widely recognized by telecom equipment manufacturers as a "gold standard" of portable software solutions. In fact, many Trillium products have become a de facto standard in communications products deployed worldwide.

What is Trillium Advanced Portable Architecture (TAPA)?

Trillium Advanced Portability Architecture is a set of architectural and coding standards that facilitates the implementation of communication protocol solutions and ensures that Trillium software is completely independent of the target system's compiler, processor, operating system and architecture. This creates a flexibility that allows telecom equipment manufacturers to adapt and integrate communication protocol solutions rapidly into a wide rage of products. Used across the entire product line, TAPA helps reduces risk and product life-cycle costs while accelerating time-to-market by reducing the learning curve for the customer's development team.

IMS technology as the future of Telecom Innovation

IMS or IP Multimedia Subsystems, is a very promising technology for a country like India, which is one of the most rapidly growing mobile telephony markets. IMS platforms facilitate the creation and delivery of real-time, person-to-person, IP-based multimedia communications, and they are a powerful extension to the existing network infrastructure, allowing operators to build next-generation multimedia communication services. IMS is a modular system based on IP and SIP (Session Initiation Protocol). It provides a dynamic architecture that works across multiple fixed and wireless links and provides a SIP-based control layer between the transport and services layers, allowing end users to initiate multiple services from within a single communication session. It is critical to telecom innovation because its implementation heralds the  forthcoming communications convergence that will revolutionize the telecom industry at a rapid rate.

CCPU's contribution to IMS technology

Continuous Computing has pioneered the development of true Network Service-Ready Platforms, such as our Trillium +plus product line, specifically for use with IMS networks. Network Service-Ready Platforms consist of nearly everything an application needs to perform in the carrier-class environment, such as AdvancedTCA or CompactPCI platform hardware, Trillium protocol software, and integrated management software. In essence, a Network Service-Ready Platform is an out-of-the-box, ready-to-go standardized platform that enables a Telecom Equipment Manufacturer (TEM) to focus its resources and attention on application development. As a result, Network Service-Ready Platforms allow TEMs to meet the demand for a deployment speed that will be even more accelerated by IMS.

On competition...

No other company offers the complete range of high availability platform and software solutions like Continuous Computing. While we have point-product competitors for hardware or protocol software, our differentiation is in being able to provide the entire telecom infrastructure solution with the best core products while providing the strongest technical and customer support. The integration of these key building blocks to help telecom manufacturers quickly deploy is an important differentiator.

India operations...

Continuous Computing has been steadily expanding its presence in the Asia Pacific region and India is yet another milestone in our rapidly growing international footprint. Our Bangalore development centre, set up in July 2004, is important for providing world-class development capability and support to our increasingly global customer base. Our India operations provide pre- and post-sales support for the company's customers in the high-growth Indian market as well as the entire Asian region.

Continuous plans to invest over $3 million in its Indian operations over the next few years. The Bangalore office serves as a key element of the company's product development infrastructure and also provides pre- and post-sales support for the company's customers in the high-growth Indian market as well as the entire Asia Pacific region. We have been hiring aggressively and we are very proud of our Indian staff.

Customer Base in India

Continuous Computing has numerous customers in India, most of which have not been publicly announced for competitive reasons. One customer that we have highlighted recently, however, is Bharti Telesoft, who selected our Trillium SS7 protocol software to deliver value added services (VAS) platforms in India and other emerging markets globally. Our products enabled Bharti Telesoft to meet its scalability and availability requirements for carrier-class infrastructure to help deliver its market-leading Missed Call Alert application
