BANGALORE: Quantum Corporation announced its latest technology roadmap, which would provide customers with a broader selection of tape drive to meet their varying storage needs. The new product roadmap incorporates ValueDLT products from recently acquired Benchmark Storage Innovations, Inc.

ValueDLT products offer customers the advantage of providing a compatibility path to SuperDLT products. The new product roadmap takes DLTtape technology to a storage capacity of 2.4 TB by 2006.

Quantum’s roadmap delivers superior price and product performance while helping to ensure investment protection across the family. With its ValueDLT and SuperDLT products, Quantum offers drives that span the low-end, mid-range and high-end of the tape storage solutions market, storing from 80 GB to 320 GB of compressed data on a single drive.

The next major milestone within the super drive segment of the DLTtape product roadmap will be the introduction of the SDLT 600 in the summer of 2003. With the new SDLT 600 drive, customers will enjoy increased performance and faster data transfer rates.

The new SDLT 600 will take DLTtape technology to an advanced level of capacity and performance, with a per-cartridge capacity of 600 GB of storage (300 GB native) and a transfer rate of greater than 64 MB/s (compressed), a near doubling of capacity and speed over the current SDLT 320 drive.

In addition to the capacity and speed figures for the five generations of SuperDLT and ValueDLT drives, the new product roadmap outlines Quantum’s plans for its entire line of tape drives. These include, Backward-read compatibility within the ValueDLT product roadmap, Backward-read within the SuperDLT product family and

Backward-read capabilities between Quantum’s SuperDLT and ValueDLT product lines. The interchangeability of DLTtape now offers the best investment protection for customers whose needs are growing or who have already invested in DLTtape technology.
