Amarjot Singh, Founder and CEO of Skylark Lab, explained how their company was assisting Punjab Police on the second and final day of the Virtual AI Summit in Hong Kong. Since it is not possible for police to patrol the complete areas on their own and paucity of CCTV cameras, technology steps in. The camera-fitted drones conduct aerial monitoring and recording operations that can easily tell who are violating curfews.

Their Yolo Detector uses Deep Neural Networks. They have a “Human Detection and Distance Calculation System” which can tell who isn’t doing social distancing. These violations are directly alerted to the police. In the footage compliant individuals are shown in green boxes while violators in red. Data is computed in real time and a video clip and co-ordinates are directly sent to the police. A command centre analyses all the data. Hundreds of violators have been arrested so far.

Shawn Xuewu Wang, Member of Data Science 50, CBN, said that AI has become the hottest topic; the biggest tech revolution in our history and has integrated into all aspects of our life, but it is data that makes AI smarter. He was speaking on the topic, “Gathering Meaningful Data to Train AI Systems Right”.

Deepth Dinesan, NetApp’s Resident Data Scientist and Director of AI Robotics & Quantum Computing said that large scale infrastructure is required to deploy Deep Learning-Machine Learning systems. They had weaved a Data Fabric across the Edge, Core & Cloud for Data Mobility. This also makes it easier to integrate Quantum Computing. He was speaking on the topic: Future Proof your AI investments for a Quantum-Classical Hybrid Cloud World

Andy Chun, Regional Director—Technology Innovation Prudential Corporation Asia gave a presentation on “Accelerating Customer Experience Through Human-AI Interaction”. Chun said that: Data is the new oil. AI is the new electricity. He said that they were using innovations like the BMI selfie and eKYC during the COVID-19 crisis and their app downloads went up by millions. It is AI that turns CX into awesome CX.

Irwin King, Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering in the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), said that Deep Learning applications include DNA sequencing and could also be used for developing vaccines like those for Covid-19. But the problem with DL models was that barrier entry is high. He was speaking on: Automating Deep Learning with Neural Architecture Search.

Steve Wan, Managing Director, Seed Dream Technology, spoke on the topic of “Leveraging AI and Gamification to Engage Modern Day Consumers”. He talked about the way marketing has moved beyond branding and advertising and the fact that integrated technology solutions are combing AI-ML-Data Analytics and gamification.

On Day 1, Mark Beccue, Principal Analyst, AI & NLP, Omdia inaugurated the session and said that companies with AI initiatives are accelerating while new markets are resonating for those that have done AI. Dr. David Chung, Under Secretary for Innovation and Technology Bureau, also spoke in detail about Hong Kong’s digital economy. There were also multiple Q&A sessions and a Virtual Expo at the summit.
