NEW YORK: Pune in India, which currently houses over 500 engineers working on almost the entire range of Veritas storage solution, is gearing up to be a much bigger center, both in terms of team size as well as importance. According to Mark Bregman, executive VP of Product Operations at Veritas "We shall soon be taking 100 more people for Pune, and I would not be surprised if Pune becomes Veritas’ largest engineering and development center in the whole world".

Already, the Pune centre which started in 1992, is Veritas’ second largest design and development center. What makes it unique is that it is the only Veritas center which has work going on all its product lines. "Therefore, when we think of major expansion where product integration will also be a major focus, Pune is the most suitable place" says Bregman.

Admitting that low costs and good skill-set availability is still the biggest reason for building up Pune center, Bregman added that he also finds Indian developers very creative. He said his target would be to get the top 10 percent of the IIT graduates. According to him, "The challenge will be recruiting experienced managers who will be able to lead large teams."
