Pune gets next gen telecom lab

PUNE: Tech Mahindra, India's 8th largest software exporter and one of the largest telecom solution providers and Intel, today launched the first “Next Generation Telecom Solutions Lab” at Pune at Tech Mahindra's development center.

The lab showcases Tech Mahindra's next generation telecom application proof — of — concepts like IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) based Video on Demand (VoD), IP conferencing and Universal Personal Number hosted on Intel Carrier Grade Services.

Both companies plan to make this lab available for ecosystem members, Telecom Equipment manufacturers and telecom Service Providers worldwide to evaluate next generation telecom software applications running on open standards based Intel Carrier Grade Servers.

Addressing the press conference C.P.Gurnani, President- International Operations, Tech Mahindra said that the lab was established in Pune so as to address the growing Indian telecom market.

Further he added that the aim of the lab is to provide solutions as per the requirement of the Indian market and develop solutions locally and then deploy it internationally.

Commenting on the TRAI directive on the portability of mobile numbers, he said, Tech Mahindra is ready with solutions for portability of mobile number and said that it is a challenge given the varied system deployed. He also said that on the security ground there would be no problem as Tech Mahindra has its own data security practices which would able to answer any security issues.

Also present on the occasion was John McClure, GM- Sales and Marketing (South Asia), Intel that Tech Mahindra and Intel would showcase end—to—end solutions based on Intel Carrier Grade Server platforms. He said that this is the first lab dedicated to IP service platform in India, whereas Intel has similar labs outside India in its own premises in New Jersey, Bejing and Belgium.

Vineet Nayyar, Vice Chairman and MD, Tech Mahindra who was also present on the occasion announced that very recently Tech Mahindra has signed a MoU for acquiring land in Chandigarh for the purpose of building a campus in the city.

He said that though Pune would remain the epicenter of the company but in near future it would venture out in cities like Kolkatta, Jaipur etc where fair amount of talent would be available. According to him construction for the Chandigarh campus would begin in next four months and within two years it would have almost thousand people.
