Pune bio-tech park gets 100 acres from state

PUNE: Minister of industries for Maharashtra, Patangrao Kadam has informed that the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) is now developing 600 acres in Hinjewadi, which includes 100 acres for biotechnology. In order to give a boost to the industry in the form of good infrastructure, the Biotechnology Park was being developed in a joint venture with the TCG. Referring that Pune was emerging as a preferred destination for information technology and biotechnology sectors.



The minister also stated that his government was taking all necessary steps to ensure that Maharashtra remains at the forefront through regular dialogues with the industry. Kadam was speaking at the inaugural of "Logistics and Material Handling 2002 and Packaging 2002" organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).



Cyrus Guzder, chairman, AFL Pvt. Ltd., in his keynote address, stated that the Indian manufacturing industry had been steadily losing competitiveness during the later half of the nineties. Its share in the national GDP had been steadily declining to a point where it may be detrimental in the long-term growth of the Indian economy. Among the various steps needed is the creation of a new logistics and supply chain vision for Indian manufacturing, he said.
