PUNE: Product development company PTC is identifying new verticals to add to its portfolio. These include consumer electronics and medical electronics.
PTC caters to the needs of customers in areas such as aerospace, defence, automotive products, hi-tech electronics and industrial products using its product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions.
Ashutosh Parasnis, managing director, PTC Software (India) Pvt Ltd said that the company has not so far addressed verticals like consumer electronics and medical electronics.
“We could be looking at defining specific templates on the workforce side and the Indian team will play a major role in this effort,” he said.
For instance, PTC is playing a key role in the designing Nike shoes. PTC has been a major vendor in the PLM market supporting more than 35,000 customers and 500,000 users.
The center at Pune is PTC's largest R&D facility outside USA with 600 engineers. PTC has another R&D facility at Israel. “ The fragmented product development process has been shifting to an integrated development process and this has been a key driving force for PLM,” said Parasnis.
The PTC R & D team has worked with the global team to develop products such as Pro/Engineer, Windchill, Pro/Intralink, CADDS51, Optegra and Pro/Ficiency. Parasnis said the center was now engaged in the development of Pro/Engineer 3.0, slated to be rolled out next year. Windchill 8.0 was recently released.
A Technical Support division has also been set up at Pune to extend product support services to North American and Asian customers including India.
