Psion begins Indian operations with modem launch

NEW DELHI: With the launch of their first range of products, Psion PLC has

formally made its presence in India. The firm has announced the launch of Psion

Revo, Psion Revo plus, Psion series 5mx and 56K travel modem that is targeted at

professionals to enable mobile computing.

The firm, in this regard, also announced the appointment of Ingram Micro as

their distributor and Agrani and Fabmart as their national retailer in India.

Psion Revo, priced at Rs 18,500 is a switched-on organizer. The pocket-sized

product offers agenda, contacts manager, email, jotter, and PC sync and business

commitment schedule. Revo has 36 MHz ARM processor and 8Mb ROM and 8Mb RAM.

The Revo plus would be available at Rs 23,925. Apart from the above features,

the product has an WAP-enabled browser and the Opera Secure Web browser. The

Series 5mx handheld computer delivers computing power. It has a keyboard, screen

and a Dictaphone feature to record voice notes. It also has options to increase

memory and is priced at Rs 32,000.

Along with these products, the company also launched an accessory- a 56K

Travel modem- that is priced at Rs 7,000. It is a compact, lightweight and

enables a PDA user to surf the Web at 56K speeds over ordinary landlines. It

also allows GSM communication over compatible mobile phones.

Touching upon the market potential for the product, Charles Cousins, Regional

Director, Psion PLC said, "The present Indian market scenario holds great

potential for our mobile solution." Headquartered in London, Psion designs,

develops and markets mobile computing products for the consumer, corporate and

professional market.
