Prospects for MCU market

SAN JOSE, USA: Databeans Inc has said that the microcontroller MCU market is anticipated to be able to reach up to $12.3 billion in the year 2010, up 14 percent from the year 2009. 

In the year 2009, the MCU market fell by 21 percent in profits, due to the major part of it being in downturn. Nonetheless, with their extensive range of uses, which includes consumer, automotive, computer, communications and industrial uses, microcontrollers are expected to pick up this year and develop gradually to $18.5 billion dollars in the year 2015,'' as per the research firm.

Major Microcontroller providers include Microchip Technology, Renesas Electronics, Freescale Semiconductor, Infineon Technologies, and Fujitsu. Renesas, also includes recently acquired NEC, remained the top supplier in during 2009 with an anticipated collective 29 percent share. While Freescale stood second with 10 percent share in the market.
