Using the Serengeti, various enterprises can deploy, implement a Hadoop cluster in very little time over VMWare Vsphere platforms. Even generally used Hadoop components such as Apache Pig and Apache Hive can be deployed easily over VMWare virtualization platforms.

VMWare is also said to be working in close so-ordination with Apache Hadoop community in developing various extensions that will better Hadoop's performance over multiple actualization platforms.

Before VMWare brought out the Serengeti, a lot of enterprises found it difficult to deploy Hadoop over virtualization platforms which in turn led to the enterprises not harnessing the full potential of the virtualization platform. But open-source has overcome this disadvantage and has set the ball rolling for enterprises to make effective use of the virtual-machine environment.
