It has been an established fact that India is a hub for manufacturing of Polished Diamonds. The Industry accounts for over 45,000 crores of exports in diamonds and has an 80% share in the International Diamond Market. Considering the quantum of manufacturing activity of Diamonds in Surat,surely Surat needs no introduction.

Surat is the fastest growing city in India with the maximum GDP and is the city in the state of Gujarat, which is one of the most vibrant states of India. The Diamond Industry provides direct and indirect employment to over 20 lacs of people directly or indirectly, most of whom are very low on education but high on skills.

Surat Diamond Association established in 1988 is the only such association in Surat and is registered under the Society and Trust Act with a membership base of more than 2,200. Surat Diamond Association has all the leading persons and units involved with the Diamond and Jewellery Industry, small, medium and large manufacturers, traders, brokers, importers and exporters associated with the Diamond and Jewellery Industry as their members. This also includes Jewellery manufacturers, jewellery retailers and also technocrats involved in the manufacturing of machineries used in the diamond and jewellery industry.

SDA is involved in the following activities in the Industry:

1.  Representing the Industry related problems to the Government. They also take the demands to the Government for the development of the Industry.

2. SDA conducts seminars for providing information to our members and other people in the industry regarding the different schemes of the government and technology upgradation in the Industry.

3. They also conduct social activities like Blood Donation camp and Free Medical Health camp for the artisans and their family members.

4. SDA has taken up a project of constructing a hospital for everyone who will be given the medical treatment on subsidized rates.

5. They try to maintain harmonious environment in the Diamond industry and a balance in the relationship of the manufacturers and their artisans. There is no labour association for the workers in this industry because we are able to resolve their matters in the association itself.
