Techno Linguistic

Solutions, specializing in the development of local language applications has

launched a new product, named DisckKeeper. This is a unique copy-production

technique developed after an exhaustive research into optical storage device

architecture. It prevents the copying of data from CD to hard disk as well as

from CD to CD.

Piracy

One of the

greatest menaces threatening the software community is the illegal copying and

distribution of software by unauthorized persons, or what is popularly called

software piracy. The company considered the many options available to counter

it, but none of them met their  standards for a software protection.

Eventually, this gave birth to a research wing to investigate this problem and

devise a solution.

The problems in CD protection

The main weakness

of the existing copy protection systems was the possibility of introducing a

generic patch for a particular technology, thus compromising the security of

every CD using that technology. Techno Linguistic Solutions' research team

started working on a new kind of copy-prevention system, which addresses the

problem from a novel angle. The product was DiscKeeper.

well as from CD to CD.

Mechanism of Protection

Unlike other

popular protection schemes, DiscKeeper does not rely on verifications, but

prevents copying from the CD itself. A verification procedure is also embedded

inside the program as a secondary defense. A unique DiscKeeper digital signature

is embedded in the master CD. Popular writing softwares cannot reproduce this

signature. When a user tries to copy the protected CD, the copying procedure

will end abruptly.

Major Advantages

  • The executable

files protected by DiscKeeper cannot be disassembled, thus eliminating the

    possibility of patching.

  • DiscKeeper

integrates seemlessly with the original files and the programmer requires no

    extra coding.

  • The

performance of the protected software is not affected.

  • The end user

does not have to register by entering serial numbers or online checking.

  • The technology

is compatible with a wide range of CD drives

  • R&D is

going on and regular updates will be provided.
