Features: Dell has launched the PowerVault MD1000, a direct-attached

storage enclosure to give customers significant gains in bandwidth, capacity,

performance and value. According to Dell, with the launch of PowerVault MD1000,

it is the first top-five storage vendor to offer a storage enclosure

incorporating 3.5-inch SAS drives.

This technology enables customers to easily manage mainstream and
bandwidth-intensive applications, a Dell statement said. It claimed that the

PowerVault MD1000 is the industry's first storage enclosure based on the

proposed Storage Bridge Bay (SBB) specification.

The SBB specification aims to standardize external disk subsystem technologies,
to give customers faster access to emerging technologies such as SAS, increased

product quality and access to a broader range of products at an affordable
