Features: Dell has unveiled database-featuring quad-socket PowerEdge servers with new Intel Xeon dual-core technology and the new Microsoft SQL Server database.
The offering simplifies migration to the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 database environment, Dell said.

Dell has increased the performance, efficiency and value of its high-performance PowerEdge 6800 and 6850 quad-socket servers. Featuring dual-core Intel Xeon processors, the new servers can deliver up to 51 per cent increase in performance in compute-intensive workloads. Dell said that these servers will performance better when combined with an 800 MHz front side bus expected to be available early next year.
The systems management approach of Dell and its unique integration with industry standard management tools such as Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003 and Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 provides the capability to update server software, operating systems, and applications such as Microsoft SQL Server 2005 from a single console.
The dual-core PowerEdge 6800 and 6850 servers are available for order with factory-installed Microsoft Windows Server 2003 (32/64-bit edition) and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (32/64-bit edition).
