PUNE: Close on the heels of the proposed launch of e-Post in five states, the
Department of Posts is all set to bring a new shopping experience for Indians
and NRIs through its latest offering - eShop. The initiative will enable
customers to purchase consumer goods on the Internet using credit cards, debit
cards and Cash on Delivery (COD).
In this regard, the Department has tied up with the Hyderabad-based Nettlinx
Ltd., the largest ISP in Andhra Pradesh. Nettlinx Ltd will maintain the site,
while the Postal Dept will be responsible for the product delivery. The postal
dept hopes to make use of its vast network of delivery post offices across the
country to make eShopping a cost-effective for customers.
People living abroad can gift to their loved ones living even in remote
places. However, Nittlinx hopes to beat competitors offering similar services,
with the Postal Department’s vast delivery network.
Customer can visit the site and choose any product from the virtual
storefront. Once he/she selects and buys a product, the individual makes the
payment to Nettlinx Ltd.
Once the purchase is done, the products are shipped for delivery from the
nearest logistic center (Nettlinx Ltd) to the destination. The firm and the
Postal Department officials, however, refused to offer details on the kind of
goods that will be offered on the site.
