“We would be providing the overall technology for BSNL's video-conferencing initiative. The initiative would be ready within a period of three to four weeks. Initially the national service provider would be launching this service at five major metros of the country. Later, the service would be extended to other important cities,” informed Polycom India Branch country manager Yugal Sharma.

In tune with the national broadband proliferation push — BSNL's video-conferencing is likely to be one of the key applications that would enable concepts like tele-medicine or even tele-justice at the rural level.

“Video-conferencing on broadband is certainly going to drive a lot of innovative applications like tele-medicine or tele-justice or even tele-education. As we partner with BSNL — more and more video based applications would be rolled out. The overall size of this project is between Rs six crore to Rs seven crore, so it is quite a sizable project for us,” Sharma added.
