BANGALORE: The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) had ordered the closure of Honeywell Technology Solutions Lab Private Ltd at Adarsha Prime Project Pvt. Ltd SEZ in Devarabisanahalli near here, on charges of polluting water and air.

The order came in the wake of Honeywell failing to reply to a Pollution Control Board notice asking it file objections by January 8. The board construed the firm had no objections, a report in a leading English newspaper today said.

The Hindu said this was the first time that the KSPCB had ordered the closure of a software firm.

The Environment Officer – Bangalore East-2 passed the order, saying the firm was operating without the necessary clearance from the board. The officer had asked for the electricity to be disconnected, including three diesel generator sets.

The report said the firm “was discharging domestic sewage into a soak pit, polluting the water, and discharging emissions into air.”

Separate orders were passed against Honeywell for violation of provisions under Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act on January 25.
