With the Havana release, PLUMgrid engineers and core OpenStack Neutron developers have collaborated to shape the network services architecture of OpenStack to enable delivery of an expanded set of network functionality.

The PLUMgrid Platform is an open and highly programmable solution that provides a natural integration with the OpenStack Neutron networking service. It enables OpenStack cloud builders to expand networking capabilities, increase scalability and reduce complexity.

The PLUMgrid plug-in exposes functionality available through OpenStack networking APIs, and interacts directly with the hypervisor layer to allow tenants to provision virtual network topologies, called Virtual Domains, on demand.

"With this release, OpenStack Neutron continues to deliver key functionality in an extensible framework that can be leveraged by cloud builders and network vendors alike. The addition of load-balancing, VPN and firewall support to Neutron empowers PLUMgrid customers to automate the creation of complete virtual network infrastructures in their OpenStack clouds," said Edgar Magana, senior member of Technical Staff at PLUMgrid and core OpenStack Neutron developer.

Providing simplified automation of complete VNIs to connect and protect cloud-based applications, the PLUMgrid plug-in eliminates the need for manual configuration or changes in the underlying physical network infrastructure.
