Features: Sony India has announced the launch of its PlayStation 3, computer entertainment system in the country. Along with the PS3 hardware, a software line of over 12 first and third party titles will be available nationwide.

Addressing the media after launching the PS3 in the country, Masaru Tamagawa, managing director of Sony India said that the innovative PS3 system will bring in new features into the home entertainment segment.

“There are powerful features, technologies and capabilities that have never been brought together in one system, including the Cell Broadband Engine, BD Drive, 60Gb HDD and online connectivity – all in high-definition clarity,” he said.

PS3, powered by the Blu-ray Disk drive and Cell Broadband engine allows a user not only to play games, but also watch movies and videos, listen to music, view photos, browse the internet and connect with other friends, online. The console also has a built-in WiFi adapter and multiple memory card slots.

Speaking on the occasion, Tim Stokes, sales and marketing director for Sony Computer Entertainment for Middle-East and Indian markets said that PS3 will be officially available in India from tomorrow. “With incredible technology and value-packed into PS3, we have seen a rapid adoption of the system around the world, and we expect to see similar results in the booming Indian market,” he said.

Stokes said that content was the major driver for a gaming console such as PS3. “We are working on integrating local content by end of this year,” he said.

PS3 will be available at all retail stores across the country. However, the company will sell SIXAXIS wireless controllers and Blu-ray Remote control and HDMI cable as accessories.

Even though Sony plans to become a major player in the gaming console market in India, only 1200 PS3s have been shipped into the country.

Price: It is strategically priced at an MRP of Rs 39, 990/-.
