A look at Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro: Price, Features and Competitors

Google has unveiled the next line of its flagship smartphones - Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. The company will launch the phone in "upcoming fall" with a custom SoC - Tensor - specifically built by Google for the Pixel phones. Further, reports suggest that the Google phones are rather exclusive. They will only come out for sale in eight countries - Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Taiwan, the UK, and the US. The company will also use the Android 12 announced at Material You Google I/O.

"With Material You, we’re mixing color science with years of work in interaction design and engineering. These UI updates are grounded in the new animation and design framework — to make using your Pixel feel incredibly natural because everything runs smoothly on the Tensor chip. Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro debut this fall, and that’s when we'll share all the details we normally release at the launch, like new features, technical specs, and pricing and availability. But today, we’re giving you a preview of what’s to come," stated Rick Osterloh, Senior Vice President, Devices & Services.

Features of Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro

Google didn't detail the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro specs sheets. Yet, it confirmed that both smartphones will have the in-house developed Tensor chip; will run on Android 12 out of the box, and come in three colors - each. Google will also feature a telephoto camera with 4x magnification; the vanilla model will only get a dual camera (wide + ultrawide). Google says it has been working on its video recording implementation and that it will better the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Competitors

The Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro will go neck to neck with the iPhone 12 and 13. Further, a leaked One Plus 7 concept, designed in 2018, showed a similar device to the Pixel series. Perhaps the company may bring new versions in its upcoming range. It also competes with Samsung Galaxy s21 series.
