NEW DELHI: Press Information Bureau, the nodal agency under the Government of India to disseminate information to the media on government policies, program initiatives, and achievements is going hi-tech with the agency planning to adopt web-to-messaging for reaching out to journalists.

PIB is scouting for service providers for sending group and individual messages to journalists and officials from their database and keep them informed about the day-to-day developments instantly.

Though the service provider will have to integrate with the website application of PIB, the database and the SMS message text will be provided by the agency. The agency estimates that it would be sending about 25, 000 SMS per month and expects the numbers to go up. However, PIB would be testing the service initially for six months and then intends to continue, if it succeeds.
