MUMBAI: Philips India, a subsidiary of the Netherlands based Royal Philips
Electronics, has introduced its infotainment technologies based on the display
technologies, optical storage recording and playback, and the Internet-
connected world.
The products displayed includes DVD recorder DVDR 1000 priced at Rs 1,25,000;
LCD TV monitor priced at Rs 70,000; new 32-inch plasma flat TV priced at Rs
2,99,900; DVD Q50 with progressive scan priced at Rs 31,990 and Lightframe2
Monitor Technology priced at Rs 16,000.
Speaking on the occasion, Frans Van Houten, executive vice president, Philips
Consumer Electronics, APAC, Middle East and Africa, said that India figured as
one of the leading markets, on par with US, China and Brazil. He expressed his
hope of doing good volumes from the Indian market.
Initially the products would be channeled through the centralized channel
network, which would be made available through regular channels by next year.
Commenting on the expected volumes of some of the products, Rajeev Karwal,
senior vice president, consumer electronics, Philips India said that the company
was expecting good volumes for some of the products viz. 600 units of the
DVDR1000, 40/5000 units of Lightframe2 and 600 units of DVDQ50.
Elaborating on the feature of the DVDR1000, Karwal said that it was the
world's first DVD recorder that created digital quality video recordings to be
played on the vast majority of existing DVD video players and DVD drives in the
market.
LCD TV PC monitor was a new 4-in-1 LCD display that combined a full featured
computer monitor, cable ready television receiver, video monitor and teletext
terminal in a single device.
He further added that the unique Lightframe2 Technology would bring in
17" monitor initially. Karwal said that to tap the market on a larger scale
15" monitor would also be introduced in few months.
