Peter Gartenberg named COO of SAP India

BANGALORE, INDIA: Business software major SAP Asia Pacific Japan today announced the appointment of Peter Gartenberg as chief operating officer (COO) of SAP India. Gartenberg will report to Steve Watts, COO, SAP Asia Pacific Japan, who is also the interim president, SAP India.

SAP India is SAP’s third largest subsidiary, globally. Approximately 30 per cent of SAP’s global employees undertake a research and development (R&D) function, SAP said in a press release. Having generated customer acquisition growth of 150 per cent over the past year, SAP India currently has more than 4,100 customers.

“I am pleased to have Peter join the executive leadership team at SAP India, which continues to invest in its leadership position and remains committed to delivering world-class solutions which enable our customers to become best-run businesses,” said Watts.

After the appointment, Gartenberg said, “We will continue to drive the software business forward in India by offering innovative solutions which deliver real value to our customers. I am confident the compelling business case we offer will also help bolster India’s economic growth.”

Prior to joining SAP India, Gartenberg served as the managing director and CEO, Siemens Enterprise Communications Pvt. Ltd India and executive vice president, Global Sales, APAC Region, Siemens Enterprise Communications GmbH & Co. KG. Gartenberg started his career in 1986 with IBM in San Francisco, California.
