BANGALORE: Recently listed IT services company, Patni Computer Services plans to set up its first development center in Bangalore. The proposed center, which will be located at the Electronic City Phase II, will house 1100 people.

Positioned for growth, the company plans to increase its presence in the South, as its operations are currently concentrated in the western and northern regions. This move will enable it to attract talent from the "silicon valley of the country", in keeping with its philosophy of "taking work closer to the people." It will also bring the company closer to some of its large clients who already have a presence in Bangalore.

With this expansion drive, Patni will take its development capability to the seventh city in India. The company currently has multiple development facilities across 6 cities in India, namely Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Noida, Gandhinagar and Chennai.

Expected to be completed in July 2004, this center will meet the needs of Patni's rapidly growing business requirements for providing services to GE, its single largest $100 million customer. Additionally, the center will offer services for clients in the Embedded Technology Solutions space currently witnessing over 100% growth year-on-year, as also for the company's Enterprise Applications practices.

Commenting on the announcement, PJ Kutar, Resident Director-India, said, "Patni has beaten the industry average with a CAGR of 41% over the last 5 years. Going forward, it is imperative for us to tap high quality talent to sustain this rapid growth. Our Bangalore Center will allow us to absorb and leverage the high-quality skill sets available in the city to help achieve our business targets."

"Going forward, Bangalore will play an important role in our overall business strategy," he further added.
