According to Satish Joshi, Patni's CTO and senior vice president, the company took this step because it does a lot of development work for US medical insurance firms and this will ensure that their products meet the standards set by HIPAA to ensure protection of patient records. Patni also caters to clients who call for compliance with the accounting and financial standards and hence the company has planned to adopt SOA, as well.

The company already follows lot many security measures, it receives data form its US clients in an encrypted form over fiber-optic lines which cannot be broken, access to firm's data center and processes for data backup and storage are tightly controlled. Patni's decision to adopt these acts is an extension of its existing security policy, he added. Patni's employees have to sign non- disclosure agreements and the company also follows the security and privacy guidelines set by the ISO 17799 and BS 7799, international and British security standards, respectively.

Joshi believes that this measure will enhance their customer's confidence in them and create better business opportunities for future.
