The award brings the number of patents granted to NTP Software in the U.S. to four, with patents pending for the remaining three applications in Europe and Australia, said a press release.

The most-recently awarded patent (No. 8,549,654) joins a portfolio of innovation that includes a system and method for user-driven data archiving (No. 8,386,439); encryption sentinel system and method (No. 8,347,359); and a system and method for determining true computer file type identity (No. 8,135,762).

"The patents that we have been awarded ensure that we continue to succeed in addressing storage challenges at organizations in the United States and around the world," said Bruce Backa, CEO of NTP Software.

"2014 will be the company's 20th anniversary, and we have never had a more successful year than the one we just completed. We continue to be successful because data management remains an ever-present need and top priority for our customers," added Backa.

NTP Software's success at controlling, managing, and protecting unstructured data has earned it strategic relationships with vendors including Dell, EMC, Hitachi, Microsoft, NetApp, and VMware. The company's customers include 82 of the Fortune 100 and 76 of the Global 100, and its products are deployed on every continent including Antarctica.

The recently concluded year also saw the company launch its NTP Software Universal File Access, which integrates with the most-common storage hosts, cloud, and object stores to make an organization's file data available to end users on any device consistent with its Active Directory security and other policies; and NTP Software Precision Tiering, which provides an easy, automated, policy-driven way to find and migrate data automatically, manually by the end user, or a combination of both.
