"Many never thought they would see the day that UNC Charlotte would take to the field for a 49er football game, but when it came, we couldn't have anticipated the excitement that filled the air," said Darin Spease, senior associate Athletic director. "With the new video displays installed by Panasonic, our fans were treated to a "big-time" experience, giving them a game day feel that rivaled any in the country."

UNC Charlotte is North Carolina's urban research university with an enrollment of more than 26,000 students. The 1,000-acre campus has been upgraded to include a number of new buildings and facilities, including the recently completed Jerry Richardson Stadium. The stadium has a capacity of 15,314 and was finalized in the summer of 2012.

The new football program is the result of grassroots efforts via student government initiatives which resulted in the team's first kickoff in 2013. The addition of stadium amenities, including the new LED video boards, was among other final preparations in advance of the team's home opener.

For the main LED video Panasonic installed a 20mm pixel pitch display that is 42 feet wide and 28.3 feet tall. The field level LED video board features a 16mm pixel pitch and measures at 37.8 feet wide by 3.1 feet tall. The highly visible displays were part of a larger solution designed by Panasonic which also included timing and scoring systems with a locker room clock, a state-of-the-art video playback system and a video production system that incorporates cameras, a switcher, an intercom and audio. The complete solution will enable the University to configure unique content for events.

"Panasonic was proud to be a part of the excitement surrounding the opening season of the Charlotte 49er football program," said Richard Ballard, VP of Sales and Marketing for Panasonic Eco Solutions North America. "We provided a solution to help the University engage and thrill spectators during football games or other activities, offering crisp, sharp images for graphics and videos to enhance the viewing experience."
