Panaji to implement e-governance project by this year

PANAJI, INDIA: The Corporation of the city of Panaji (CCP) is soon going to implement its e-governance initiatives in six months from now. The Central Government's sanctioning and monitoring committee has allocated Rs. 19.79 crore for the e-governance project in a meeting held on April 23.

"The CCP has received a sanction for funds of 19.79 crore for the e-governance project from the central government through the Jawaharlal Nehru national urban renewal mission (JNNURM)," a Times of India report quoted Panaji mayor Surendra Furtado, as saying.

Furtado assured that the e-governance system will be implemented in another six months and for the implementation of this project; he will meet the Pune based consultants. The global tender for the project is likely to be issued in 15 days after which the JNNURM will transfer funds to the Goa state urban development agency (GSUDA).

With an e-governance system in place, citizens will be able to apply and obtain birth certificates, death certificates, no objection certificates (NOCs) for water or electricity connections, among other documents from the convenience of their homes.

Besides that, house tax and other municipal taxes can be paid online and there will be no paper file notings for CCP functioning as the entire process will be computerized.
