Pak to participate in Nasscom '04

NEW DELHI: Close on the heels of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's initiative to strengthen economic ties with Pakistan, Nasscom has announced that a 20 member IT delegation from Pakistan will be participating at Nasscom 2004: India Leadership Forum being held from February 3- February 6, 2004 in Mumbai.



The delegation led by Jehan Ara, president of Pakistan Software Houses

Association (P@SHA), Nasscom's counterpart in Pakistan, will comprise of Pakistan's leading IT companies. The delegation will also visit few other key IT cities in India to meet some major IT companies.



The purpose of this visit and association between Nasscom and P@SHA is not only to explore and cultivate IT trade opportunities but to also share Indian IT companies' success and experience in providing high quality services and process management skills.



Commenting on the initiative, Nasscom president Kiran Karnik said, "Nasscom has been working with P@SHA at an overall Asia pacific level and is now looking forward to increasing bilateral initiatives between the two countries in the field of IT. This is the first ever IT delegation from Pakistan to visit India and taking this association forward, Nasscom will be organizing an Indian IT delegation to Pakistan

later this year".



"The software industry is growing at an enormous pace in Pakistan and P@SHA's endeavor is to make the industry's presence felt, both nationally and internationally. This visit aims to enhance business opportunities and also help Nasscom and P@SHA to put together a framework of co-operation for continuous interaction between the two countries in the IT sector", added Ara.



The Pakistan Software industry is in its infancy with approximate revenue earnings of $50 million. At present the industry employs 10,000 professionals. The potential for growth is enormous.
