Padma Vibhushan for Murthy, Bhushan for Nadar

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Infosys chief mentor N. R. Narayana Murthy, HCL founder and chairman and chief strategy officer of HCL Technologies Shiv Nadar were among the 119 prominent personalities from various fields who were selected for the Padma awards.

Murthy was named for the Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award in the country, while Nadar was named for the Padma Bhushan honour. Murthy was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2000.

Indian president Pratibha Patel on Friday approved conferment of 13 Padma Vibhushan, 35 Padma Bhushan and 71 Padma Shri awards. Environmentalist R.K. Pachauri was also selected to be conferred with the Padma Vibhushan.

No one was named for the coveted Bharat Ratna for the seventh consecutive year. Mountaineer Sir Edmund Hillary, who passed away recently, will be conferred the Padma Vibhushan posthumously.
