Oracle Real Application Clusters is one of the building blocks for grid computing and supports the deployment of a single database across a cluster of servers.

This strong customer traction demonstrates Oracle's leadership in helping enterprises leverage grid computing through a consolidated infrastructure that can virtualize computing resources, improve reliability of applications, and provision resources dynamically at the lowest possible cost.

"Grid computing, with Oracle Database and Oracle Real Application Clusters, has helped streamline and improve efficiencies of the bank's operations," said C.M. Raman, general manager of Information Technology, Syndicate Bank. "Before we implemented this IT architecture, our managers often had to wait for a month to receive critical reports. But now, managers are able to access reports daily, thus expediting the decision-making process. This has enhanced the responsiveness and efficiency across the business. The grid architecture has optimized maximum data availability at reduced costs."

According to an August 2006 Oracle Grid Index IV report, 45% of Indian participants, which include senior decision makers working in lines of business (business respondents) or in an IT function (IT respondents), see grid computing as inevitable and will become the future of IT infrastructure.

"Indian businesses are going global. As part of their growth strategy, they have to take risks and decisions - whether it means investing in its people or technology," said Mr. SPS Grover, vice president, Technology Business Unit, Oracle India. "Organizations from sectors like telecom, financial services, travel, construction & engineering, media and utilities are convinced of the benefits of grid computing because it allows for superior scalability and fast ROI."

Over 10,000 customers worldwide run their businesses on Oracle Real Application Clusters. Oracle Real Application Clusters supports all applications - whether packaged or custom-built, across a cluster of low-cost, industry standard servers, enabling high availability and seamless scalability and runs on Linux, UNIX and Windows platforms.
