'Our DR Site helps us reduce downtime'

BANGALORE, INDIA: Excerpts from interview with G Muthukrishnan, DGM — IT, Madras Cements

CIOL: What are the major technology investments at your enterprise?

Muthukrishnan: During 2011-12, we invested around 2 crore to set up our own DR Site. We have already installed servers and storages and started the replication processes.

CIOL: Any overhauls of significant scale or value?

Muthukrishnan: Since the implementation of DR Site, we have been running business without zero per cent downtime.

CIOL: What are your future strategies and plans?

Muthukrishnan: We plan to implement virtualization of Servers. This will help us to reduce the power and cooling expenses.

CIOL: Areas of interest from recent tech-breakthroughs?

Muthukrishnan: IPV6, Storage Virtualization, Cloud Services and Big Data.

CIOL: Advice to peers in terms of lessons, mistakes or challenges you experienced

Muthukrishnan: Plan well in advance so that last minute mess-up can be avoided.

CIOL: IT as a competitive differentiator/innovator/business value centre at your organization - How?

Muthukrishnan: There are several projects where IT has been a differentiator, innovator, business value center.
