BHUBANESWAR: Ortel Communication Ltd was felicitated with CIOL SMB IT Power User Award for effective use of IT. The award was presented by the CIOL SMB forum, which organized a business advantage seminar in Bhubaneswar on September 21.
Known as India's first private sector Internet service provider (ISP), the award comes to Ortel soon after it got an ISO 9001:2000 certification last week. Ortel is in the business of providing convergence related telecom and broadcast services including Internet via cable to customers in Orissa. It is building a state of the art hybrid fiber coaxial (HFC) network capable of providing a gamut of telecom and broadcast services.
The company's network is fully operational in state's 12 towns including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Rourkela, Khurda, Puri and the port town of Paradip. Besides it is also operating in towns like Berhampur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur, Kendrapada and Sambalpur.
Interestingly, Ortel also provided cable TV service under the brand name of SkyView Home Cable, which is the dominant service provider in its market. "We currently provide Internet access through cable modem to customers in Bhubaneswar and at Cuttack. We also produce and cablecast a local origination TV channel under the brand name of OTV. We also have an Info Channel and two Education channel to provide education for students of Orissa," informed Ortel CTO Manmohan Patnaik.
