Oracle India launches local language database

BANGALORE: Oracle India has launched its first local language database for

the Indian market that would be initially available in Hindi and Tamil. The

company plans to expand the scope of this database and include more languages

for addressing different segments of the Indian market.

Oracle India is also setting up a software facility in Bangalore for its

global requirements. This would be Oracle’s third software facility in the

country with one each already in Bangalore and Hyderabad. Oracle India country

manager Shekhar Dasgupta said the company has been named the most favored

electronic commerce provider in a recent survey conducted by IT Asia.



The survey indicated that 49 per cent of respondents picked Oracle as their
preferred e-commerce provider beating Microsoft which got favorable response

from 45 per cent respondents and IBM which got 16 per cent.

Tony Banham said Oracle clearly leads in the e-commerce space with a majority of

top ten sites in the world opting for Oracle platform for their e-business. The

survey indicates that Asian enterprises are beginning to deploy e-commerce

extensively for business-to-business or business-to-consumer transactions and 63

per cent of the respondents were either engaged or in the process of conducting

external B2C e-commerce; 43 per cent saw e-commerce as offering an opportunity

to become more visible in their respective markets.
