The company is optimistic about its offering and said that it can drastically compress data and save power and space.

Oracle also expects that Exadata would be the largest business for Oracle in the next few years’ time. As the data is growing at a phenomenal rate and is projected to be around 35,000 exabyte by 2020, the company said that storage technologies are not at par with the amount of data growing today.

Sheshagiri Anegondi, VP, technology business, Oracle India, said that today the challenge before companies is to compress the exponential growth of data. Oracle can manage data in such a fashion that it will utilize less space and power. Exadata, which is Oracle’s strategic database platform, is said to be a game changer.

Exadata hardware architecture, which includes database grid and InfiBand network combined with Oracle’s proprietary software, also uses 5.3 TB PCI flash for data mirroring across storage servers.

“It can compress data 10 times in a data warehouse and can speed database performance as well as performs 1.5 I/O operations in one second,” he said. The company is expecting to sell 3,000 Exadata machines by the end of next fiscal globally but, however, it declined to give India-specific figures.

Anegondi is optimistic and said that their offering would shrink the market share of other storage vendors such as EMC and NetApp. “It eliminates system integration delays as the company facilitates ready-made solution to the customers,” he informed.

Demonstrating its value preposition, Anegondi said that for the entire Facebook users, only two Exadata machines can be used which can store profiles of a billion users. The database storage major is eyeing companies that have very large database in India.

Oracle also believes that government projects such as financial inclusion will fuel the growth for its innovative offering. The company also said that it offers financial assistance to its customers, who require Exadata.

It has already installed close to 1,000 Exadata machines across 23 industries in 67 counties. The company launched database machine for the first time with HP in 2008 and later with Sun in 2009.
