Oracle to empower TN e-gov drive

CHENNAI: Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu Limited (ELCOT) and Oracle India Private Limited (Oracle India) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) here today. As per the MOU Oracle will be a partner of Tamil Nadu Government in its e-government initiatives. Elcot is the optional nodal agency under Information Technology Department of Government of Tamil Nadu for implementation of e-governance projects and initiatives.



At the time of signing the MoU, Vivek Harinarain, Secretary to Government & Chairman, Elcot said, "as an on-going initiative of the Tamil Nadu Government to deploy IT for streamlining operations and optimizing the use of government resources, Elcot has chosen to partner with Oracle. We lay particular emphasis on security, operations continuity, availability, scalability and lowering total cost of ownership."



"Governments are transforming themselves to meet increasing public demands, legislative mandates, and economic and political pressures to be more responsive, efficient and accountable," said Shekhar Dasgupta, managing director, Oracle India. "Our relationship with Elcot will give us the opportunity to use Oracle technology and applications in providing world-class e-governance solutions to Tamil Nadu."



Oracle-HP e-governance Center of Excellence Oracle recently launched its center in India. The center will provide a platform for the development of model e-governance applications, showcasing e-governance applications that are currently being used by various Government agencies in India as well as e-governance applications by Oracle, HP and their partners. It showcases Oracle's successful e-governance architecture, implemented worldwide by more than 2000 organizations, with particular emphasis on security, operations continuity, availability, scalability and lowering total cost of ownership.



The Oracle- HP E-governance Center of Excellence offers services such as technical consultation, proof of concept and thematic presentations, and is designed to create awareness amongst decision makers at the central and state-government levels to help effectively define and implement the e-governance process.
