NEW DELHI: The Asia-Pacific region is showing strong signs of revival, with demand matching levels before the regional economic crisis three years ago, a senior official of software firm Oracle Corp said on Tuesday.

"Historically, the markets have returned to very, very strong performance," Derek Williams, Oracle's executive vice-president for the Asia-Pacific region, told Reuters on the margins of a news conference.

"We are turning back to pre-1997 levels," he said.

Williams mentioned Korea, Taiwan, China, Hong Kong and Singapore among the key markets showing strong growth. India, which was not hit by the Asian slowdown, continued to be a strong market in the region, he said.

He did not give details on revenue, citing the quiet period ahead of Oracle's quarterly results due on December 14.

Earlier, Williams told the news conference that Oracle was considering a proposal to bring its venture capital arm to Asia to fund technology startups, but said it was not a high priority in view of overall market conditions in the world.

Oracle announced a strategic partnership with E-PAC International, a consultancy firm, aimed at boosting skilled professionals well versed in the company's technologies to feed a huge global demand.

The UK-based company, with a sizeable operation in India, will boost the development of products developed with Oracle technologies, company officials said.
