She made these remarks during a panel discussion on 'Outsourced Product Development — Opportunities and Challenges' organized by Nasscom and Aspire Systems.

Speaking at the event, Aspire CEO, Gowri Subramanian, said, “the product and technology services revenues is estimated to reach $8-11 billion by the end of 2008 and revenues for the current year in this space stood at $3 billion.”

Quoting a recent Nasscom survey, he said that the industry currently employs around 80,000 product engineers. However, the market still demands to employ around 250,000 to 300,000 skill product engineers by 2008.

The panelist also stressed that the industry lacks skilled engineers in the field of product development and called in for fundamental focused education, which would cover the overall development of technical professionals.
