Ola is one of the world’s leading mobility platforms. The company today announced that it will bring its electric 2 wheeler range of products to New Zealand. The electric scooters are in-line with the New Zealand government carbon neutrality goal. The NZ Gov aims to on-road 64,000 new electric vehicles by the end of 2021. Meanwhile, it also aims that the public sector becomes carbon neutral by 2025.

About Ola e-scooter

The company will launch the electric scooter across several markets around the world. But it has already won many innovations and design awards around the world. Some major names include Consumer Electronic Show (CES) and the German Design Awards. The company plans to bring many such design and software innovations to its entire product line of two-wheelers. Further, they aim to bring their products to global markets, including New Zealand, in the coming months.

Bhavish Aggarwal, Chairman and Group CEO, Ola, welcomed the move by the New Zealand government towards carbon neutrality, especially in the mobility sector. Talking about the update, he stated, "We are excited about bringing our electric 2 wheelers to New Zealand to further accelerate the development of sustainable solutions. Climate change is a serious challenge. Thus, Ola is committed to moving the world to sustainable mobility through our products.”

Brian Dewil, MD at OlaNZ said the government’s climate emergency announcement puts more responsibility on transport providers to step up and make changes. “Ola wants to play an important part in New Zealand’s journey to becoming carbon neutral. We’ve witnessed strong and steady growth in the e-scooter and e-bike sector. So we believe consumers will welcome the new scooter product as a way to contribute towards establishing a zero-carbon economy.”

Earlier this year, Ola announced plans of hiring over 2,000 people for its electric business. It aims to rapidly build a suite of electric and smart urban mobility solutions for consumers around the world. Ola Electric has raised about USD 400 million in funding from Tiger Global, Matrix India, Tata Sons Chairman Emeritus Ratan Tata and others.
