Odisha to implement e-district project by Sept. 1

BHUBANESWAR, INDIA: In a high-level meeting presided by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the Odisha State Secretariat, the State Government had decided to roll out e-district project in 130 tehsils by September 1, this year.

The Odisha State Government had launched the e-district programme on a pilot basis in Mayurbhanja and Ganjam districts. It was also decided to extend the Odisha State Wide Network (OSWAN) project to the 103 urban bodies, 177 sub-register offices, 165 treasury, 375 health institutions, 317 Tehsils, 30 blocks, 30 DRDAs, 58 Sub-collector offices by April, 2014.

The e-district programme which has been recognized as one of the Mission Mode Projects at the State level is a joint initiative of the Department of Information Technology (DIT), Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT) and the Centre.

Under the e-district programme, the State Government is issuing birth, death, caste, resident, income, legal heir and solvency certificates in Mayurbhanja and Ganjam districts.

The programme will also cover other districts. Once the project is initiated, nearly 130 services like application for caste certificate, pension and driving license will be available at single kiosks.

As of now, people can approach the Common Services Centers (CSCs) for various utilities. Once the CSCs are approached, the scanned copies of their applications will be sent to officers concerned online. When the officer concerned receives the applicant, an email or SMS will be sent to the applicant, reporting him or her about the status of the application.

The CSCs will be based on a public-private partnership (PPP) model. In order to sustain the project without implication of recurring running cost on public exchequer, the earning from processing of forms will be shared by the government office.
