Obscene MMS sale case against gang-rape accused

MUMBAI, INDIA: The highly controversial case of girl’s gang rape in Surat city of Gujarat took a new turn during the weekend. The Surat City Police filed a fresh case of selling obscene MMS clips against Shahid Saiyad, Tariq Saiyad and Abu Bakr, the three accused in the gang rape case.

Already, the accused are under police custody for the charges of rape, in addition to the latest offence of selling obscene video clips.

The trio have been booked under the Section 292 of Indian Penal Code (IPC), according to which any sale of obscene material is a punishable crime. Following the fresh offence, the police authority will probe in the matter.

According to media reports, Abu Bakr, one of the accused, owns a mobile shop in the city area and had sold MMS clips worth Rs.40,000. Further Shahid Saiyad and Tariq Saiyad, the other two accused, also had revealed about commercial aspect of selling controversial video clips.

It was on June 12, 2009, when a 17-year-old innocent girl was forcefully picked by the three accused while she was on her way to attend tuition classes, early in the morning. There after, the trio had molested and raped the young female and the whole act of atrocity was recorded on the cell phone.

Since the incident happened, the case has come under the media’s firing line and public outrage against the local police authority for their sluggish act.
