BANGALORE, INDIA: AMD India today refuted media reports that nVidia is likely to acquire Sunnyvale, California-based Advanced Micro Devices (AMD).

The reports were discussing the possibilities of nVidia acquiring AMD, which AMDZone.net termed as “beating a dead horse.”

Speaking to CyberMedia News, Alok Ohrie, managing director, AMD India, denied any such move. “There is no such move,” he said.

Reports had quoted an analyst with the American Technology Research as saying that such a deal was possible.

“The Intel/AMD road-map of integration of the CPU/GPU could pose a risk to nVidia, and buying AMD propels nVidia into a formidable competitor for Intel with the upside coming from (Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun) Huang’s ability to re-architect AMD’s design,” analyst Doug Freedman, wrote in his report.

Earlier in January, there were rumors of IBM taking over AMD. Financially AMD is in the red: its net loss of $1.772 billion equals its revenue for the fourth quarter, $1.770.

For its year ended December 29, 2007, AMD saw revenues of $6 billion but registered a net loss of $3.38 billion.

nVidia's net income computed in accordance with US generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2008 was $257.0 million, or $0.42 per diluted share, compared to net income of $163.5 million, or $0.27 per diluted share, for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2007, a net income increase of 57 per cent.
